Description | A study of the research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition, and motivation, factors that impact learning, and application of learning strategies. Theoretical models of strategic learning, cognition, and motivation serve as the conceptual basis for the introduction of college level student academic strategies. Students use assessment instruments to help them identify their strengths and weaknesses as strategic learners. Students are ultimately expected to integrate and apply the learning skills discussed across their own academic programs and become effective and efficient learners. Students developing these skills should be able to continually draw from the theoretical models they have learned. (Cross-listed as PSYC 1100) | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes |
1. Students identify and discuss psychological concepts such as personality, memory, ethical considerations, and motivation as these concepts relate to success in college, career, and life adjustment. 2. Use technological tools and library resources to acquire information, solve problems, and communicate effectively. 3. Students in the college success course will be able to use financial literacy knowledge and skills to create a personal money management plan for college success. 4. Demonstrate computer literacy skills related to college-level research. 5. Examine and critically discuss aspects of diversity in college and society as they relate to personal growth and learning. 6. Practice a systematic method of inquiry and analysis to evaluate a position on an issue before forming an opinion or drawing a conclusion. |

Attendance Policy |
Poor attendance is a leading reason for termination from a job in all areas of employment. With this factor in mind, the instructor monitors student attendance. In addition, attendance on a regular basis is necessary for proper skill development. Roll is taken at the beginning of each class--I do not do tardies. When roll is called, you are either present or absent. |
